Fly FM’s bold Merdeka campaign, “Ean Is The Merde-Car Man”, has come to a heartwarming close as breakfast show host Ean completed his one-of-a-kind hitchhiking adventure across Semenanjung Malaysia. With no car, no driver, and no plan, Ean relied solely on the kindness of Malaysians for food, shelter, and rides — embodying the true spirit of Merdeka.
Along the way, Ean experienced a boat ride in Perak, tried the world-acclaimed Roti Canai Terbang in Kedah, and even explored Gua Kelam in Perlis. Families, students, and even religious leaders extended their support, turning every step of the Merde-Car Man’s journey into a celebration of unity, kindness, and hospitality.

Starting from Kuala Lumpur, Ean covered thousands of kilometres across the nation, with every leg of the journey made possible by everyday Malaysians:
Sungai Buloh R&R – Teluk Intan (Perak), 149km – Kamal & Wan
River ride – Abang Nadzri
Perak – Penang, 224km – Abang Wan & family
Penang – Kedah, 101km – Faiz & family, Lily (Georgetown – Butterworth, 31.6km)
Alor Setar – Pokok Sena (20.1km) – Ustaz Firdaus; Pokok Sena – Perlis (77.3km) – Ustaz Firdaus
Kangar (Perlis) – Kota Bharu, 411km – by bus
Kota Bharu – Kuala Terengganu, 164km – Abe Ha
Kuala Terengganu – Kuantan (Pahang), 226.9km – Aiman
Kuantan – Larkin (Johor), 347.2km – bus courtesy of Aiman
Johor Bahru – Melaka, 213km – Abg Fadzli
Melaka – Negeri Sembilan (88km) – by shuttle
Negeri Sembilan – Sepang Gold Coast (50km) – Tas
Sepang Gold Coast – Putrajaya (65km)

Ean’s journey came to a close at the Merdeka Parade in Putrajaya, where he reunited with his co-host Haniff to celebrate Independence Day with the people. The adventure reached new heights when the duo had the honour of meeting Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communications of Malaysia, symbolising the closing chapter of Merde-Car Man — a campaign that not only celebrated Merdeka but also brought Malaysians together across states, backgrounds, and beliefs.
“Merde-Car Man was about proving that the Merdeka spirit is alive and well,” said Ean. “Every ride, every story, every smile showed how generous and united Malaysians truly are. I couldn’t have done this without the people who opened their doors, shared their food, or simply offered me a ride.” This Merdeka, Fly FM reminds all Malaysians: independence is not just about history, it’s about living every day with unity, kindness, and togetherness.
